I always enjoy watching these big, graceful birds when I do shows along the oceanfront. They put on quite a show when they form up a squadron and glide along the edges of buildings or skim just above the surface of the water in search of lunch.
I can carve this design into a variety of glasses but for this particular window I used a double flashed streaky glass, which, in this case, is comprised of a layer of blue glass streaked over a layer of milk white glass on a clear glass base. This arrangement diffuses the light in such a way that the birds have an aural glow around them. Also because of this arrangement the center panel is a light blue when viewed from the front and a darker blue when viewed from the back.
The central panel is bordered by bevels, doubled at the ends and had a zinc perimeter.
