The Cross and Flame emblem of the United Methodist Church is in one of the front doors of the First United Methodist Church in historic downtown Hampton, VA. This beautiful church was built at the turn of the 20th century and the interior of the church has beautiful stained glass windows with extensive painting done on them. Since it would be impractical, if not impossible, to copy the glass used in these windows I chose to use background glass that had the same soft coloring and feeling. I also carried through the diamond background pattern and coloring scheme used in these windows and then superimposed the liturgical symbols. These windows are a part of a memorial window program in place at the church and the doves in the border were requested by the family donating the window to honor their deceased family member. The doves are sand carved into blue flashed glass.

This window has been insulated between two panes of tempered glass for protection and thermal value.
